It’s time to chop my dreads off for charity. It’s been 10 years (kiwi experience job interview) since I’ve had short hair. This is a school close to my heart, with some beautiful people attending that need your help. Please take the time to read/ share/ like/ donate. Every cent goes to the kids.
$10k for 10 years for the Kids Its no secret that Nicaragua has been hit hard by the protests against the government and the 1 industry that was going well, tourism, has been reduced by over 75%. Couple that with it already being the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and out here where we are, 50% are living in extreme poverty, which equates to trying to live on less than $2 A DAY!!!! Add in the disabled children out here don’t have any school or therapy services, except our Centro de Habilidades Equipo Jake (Team Jake Ability Center) that just opened 2 months ago. So, you can see just how challenging the situation is down here for these kids to try and make it. We REALLY need therapy equipment and supplies with the growing numbers of kids coming to our Center. One of our volunteers, Morrie, has decided to take on a challenge that we hope YOU can help us with! Morrie, who is owner of Surf Popoyo Lessons, has been growing his dreadlocks for 10 years. We have a goal. It is to raise $10,000 before we cut his hair off!!!! Every cent raised will go to the students of Centro Habilidades Equipo Jake. We could really use your help to get us to our goal! We hope during these extremely challenging times down here for Nicaraguans, that you can support us this holiday season! Every bit helps! Buena Onda Beach Resort was dreamed up by a Swiss couple. Philip and Sarah arrived to Nicaragua by freight ship via Costa Rica in 2007 in search of an adventure. After settling into local life and living near Majagual beach in San Juan Del Sur they visited the Santana and Popoyo area after hearing talk of the good surf and wild beauty of those areas. They immediately fell in love with the area and once offered a large ocean front parcel right in front of the (now) famous Santana beach break did not have to think twice! It took almost a year to prepare access, water, and power and to get the initial building with 5 rooms of the ground. This was complimented with a rustic wood Shack where simple food was served from the first couple of years. There were not many guests at this point in time but the time was magic and the few takers started to spread the word around the world. As they say, the rest is history. Nowadays Buena Onda Beach Resort is a full-fledged small boutique resort for surfers and non-surfers alike. Over the years many features were added, and Buena Onda Beach Resort now boasts a restaurant, pool, activities desk, 13 rooms, two beachside villas and 4 luxurious hilltop villas with private pools. Even though Buena Onda Beach Resort has grown it still prides itself on the laid-back vibe and friendly atmosphere offering a family style stay where you still get to know your hosts personally. The vision was always to being able to share our little slice of paradise with people from all over the world. The offerings range from dorm beds to mansions and at the end of the day everyone shares a cold drink around the pool and a good meal in the restaurant to recall the days adventures. Buena Onda Style!
More info about Buena Onda Beach Resort The place we all love to visit, live and surf just had the unthinkable happen. On Thursday Oct.5 Tropical Storm Nate unleashed on the Tola area of Nicaragua. Flooding many areas around Tola and Las Salinas. The situation on the beach in Guasacate was the worst scenario possible. The combination of high tides, high surf and heavy onshore winds. This resulted of the water runoff filling the salt flats and estuary so fast it could not escape out the river mouths fast enough. Causing the estuary to break its banks in low areas and completely destroying some business and houses along the beach and flooding most every other building. 5 days since the storm hit and several areas including Guasacate still have no power. Everyone is safe and the rebuilding and clean up processes have begun. Now is the time to give and they need your financial help. There have been several GoFundMe pages set up by people on the ground in Guasacate and abroad. We have created this list of funding options if you would like to help. We feel that it is your choice on which fund you would like to support, so we created this list for you to look through and research what fund you want to support.
