After Course 1 you will be able to communicate at a basic level in Spanish in order to buy and pay for food, engage in dialogue with the local community, and use basics phrases to make your travels less stressful.

Expanded Course 1: Review phrases & dialogue
Vocabulary
Ser vs. Estar
Personal pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, you all, they)
Present tense verb conjugations (i.e. yo hablo español) and practical infinitives (comer, bailar, beber, etc.)
After Course 2 you will be even more comfortable engaging in basic dialogue and be able to speak and understand more phrases.

Professor Jason Oldbrings to his Latin American Studies and Spanish classes a wealth of experience in, and passion for, Latin America. He has done extensive fieldwork throughout Latin America. His studies range from indigenous cultures and the concept of identity, to the socioeconomic impacts of foreign investment in rural areas of Latin America. He has lived in Nicaragua, Peru, Honduras and Argentina. After returning to the United States, Professor Old continued his education, earning his MA with a double-major in Spanish-American literature and anthropology. He is now currently working on a Ph.D. in History with a focus on Latin America.
