Hello everybody,
Here is a super adobe construction project located just outside of Popoyo! Has anybody seen this implemented before? I am sure you can agree that we hear the phrase "Go Green" now more than ever. Here is just another example of a way you can go about it. This is the first time I've seen this method of construction here in Nicaragua, actually this is the first time I've seen this method of construction period!
This particular super adobe project belongs to my friend Kevin.
From my understanding this system was created and has been implemented in countries to help house poverty stricken families. Bags, dirt, sand and a little concrete and you're good to start.
Here are some photos and a quick explanation from Kevin on his up to date construction.
"I have dug into hard pan to support the structures and need to wait until after the rainy season for the earth to settle where i have backfilled inside the curved retaining walls. There is another adjacent retaining wall, identical to the ones in the photos, where i want to plant fruit trees. The intension was to have a bodega (storage shed) in the room backed into the corner, but I decided to turn it into a bathroom. One of the young dudes that works here gave me enough of this great table rock to do the floor. The bag work will be finished the end of the week hopefully and then we can concentrate on the exterior finish and backfilling so the man doing some gardening can start planting."
I will be returning to this construction job to take photos and get more updates soon so check back if you're interested in seeing more!
