I spend a lot of time here in Popoyo, Nicaragua, so I can't help but to notice and appreciate a lot of the conveniences once I arrive to a more developed country. So I ask you, what is one of the things that most of us take for granted when we are in places like the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia etc...?
The latest talk here is supposedly about a plan to pave part of the dirt road that stretches between Tola and Popoyo. Word also has it that the city has just just bought their own heavy equipment. The roads currently are still dirt but have been greatly improved. They are nice and smooth and I must say this is the first time that I've seen them worked on and completed so early into the dry season (verano). Not only that, but the road that stretches from the bridge in Las Salinas to El Astillero is redone with fresh material and smoothed out too. First time this particular stretch of road has been redone to this degree. Personally myself and friends would prefer for the local coastal roads here to remain dirt, but be maintained more often. (Which seems to be happening over the last year or so.) If the road does become paved there are obviously pros and cons, as there are with just about anything. One thing that I can tell you for sure, we are enjoying being able to visit our family and friends more easily thanks to the newly groomed dirt roads here in Las Salinas, Popoyo, Guasacate and El Astillero.
Whether you are looking to catch tropical surf, check out exotic property for sale, start construction on your dream vacation house, sport fish, motorcycle/ATV ride, sight see and bird watch you can be sure to get around a lot easier now. Something that the expats and Nicaraguan locals are greatly appreciating!
