I am ready to get back! I've been enjoying my vacation here in California, but you better believe I'm more than ready to return to beautiful Nicaragua! Tropical weather, warm water waves and simply a tranquilo lifestyle. There aren't many places in the world that I can think of where I can take care of just about all my errands with an ATV. So I thought I'd shed some light on "Getting to Nicaragua" especially since this is one of the most often asked questions. The capital, Managua, is the only airport in Nicaragua. All the major airlines fly in and out of this location (Airport code: MGA). Easy airport to deal with, small but professional. Miami to Managua flight time is only about 2 hours and 15 minutes. If you're flying in late, like me, and don't want to drive at night nor deal with a taxi until the next day, I like to stay at the
Best Western Las Mercedes conveniently located right across the street from the airport. If you are wondering about a taxi and or guide to your Popoyo, or surrounding areas, I personally utilize and recommend my good friend
Rudy's Popoyo Taxi Service. Rudy, or one of his drivers, will assist you with whatever it is that you need on your way to your destination, from assisting with going to a bank to exchange your cash to the local currency-Cordobas, stopping for groceries, getting you smoothly through any intimidating police checkpoint, etc... The drive from Managua to Popoyo is anywhere between 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours depending on whether it's the dry or the rainy season. (Dry season: November-April | Wet season: May-October) In a nutshell, that's it! Time to pack my bags, next stop Nicaragua!
